On Friday I got into a mish mash with a co-worker who wouldn't stop commenting on the color of my skin. She just kept saying, "You're like so pale. No but like your so so pale. You're like REALLY pale!" Um,what? First of all I'm pretty sure it's a federal offense to use like so many times and second of all how am I supposed to responde to that, "Yeah...how bout that? Oh look at the time, gotta go!" Her witless banter was offensive because what she meant was "you're so pale....for an African American". If I was Caucasian, and this skin color I would be tan, mais non? Her political incorrectness was somehow both extremely offensive and hilarious. Perhaps hilarious because this particular senario seemed like a scene directly cut from The Office.
Geeeze, mind your P's and Q's ladies and gents. Just because it's America and we have the freedom of speech doesn't mean we should have the freedom of ignorant, offensive speech.
Think about it.
The Ting Tings-"We Walk"
"Smash the rest up
Burn it down
Put us in the corner 'cus we're into ideas"
Burn it down

You are so right!! That is exactly what she meant.. Smh. She probably secretly wishes to be you too. I am the same skin tone and I have been called yellow, bright, etc. It's riddiculous, but I am not mad... "They" are. ;) Anyways, I love your outfit, especially since it is thrifty! I love thrift shopping! :)
ReplyDeleteUgh. I don't even know why people would say such things. It's just so pointless. It kinda reminded me of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylPUzxpIBe0
ReplyDeleteAnyway. Love the polka dress with the red blazer! Very cute look!
